Fight Like A Girl

Hello, world!

I have missed my beautiful web dashboard and this morning the Lord totally informed me that I needed to visit.

Just today, I started reading a book my parent’s bought me for my thirteenth birthday. It’s called Girls with Swords by Lisa Bevere (i recommend it if you’re looking for a good read). I read the first chapter this morning and I found it very encouraging and hoped that you would, too. Mrs. Bevere explains that in this world, there is an enemy who targets you and his goal is to discontinue your relationship with Christ. Bevere writes:

Now is not the time to draw back in fear. It is a time when we must rise up and flourish in love. When I became a Christian, I learned that God actually had a plan for my life. It wasn’t merely that I had a destination in the afterlife. I learned my life mattered now. I had been purchased at great expense, and my life was no longer my own to squander. God wanted me to become all he had created me to be. Becoming who God created you to be is both your best offense and your best defense against the enemy’s strategy. He obviously didn’t stop you from drawing breath. It is not time to keep him from stifling the spiritual seed God planted inside you. When the enemy oppresses, it is always because he fears what we might become. Remember, oppresses are shrewd, but more often than not they are afraid.

Bevere goes on to talk about the Pharaoh that held the Israelites slaves; he was afraid of the little nation and made them slaves and killed their sons. Also like King Herod who was afraid of a rebellion due to the Messiah, thus he killed the sons of Bethlehem (A.K.A. Massacre of the Innocents). Satan is afraid of you. He sees your potential and wants to destroy it. He knows God has handpicked you to do a special mission for Him; therefore Satan wants to thwart the plan and discourage the one He has chosen.

Bevere also writes about the Screwtape Letters written by C.S. Lewis. The book is chilling and is basically the story of a demon that wants to destroy the heart of a young man whom God has chosen to do his work. In one chapter the demons reflect and talk about their strength to destroy a woman’s heart and obscure her part in life: “All is summed up in the prayer which a young female human is said to have uttered recently: ‘Oh God, make me a normal twentieth century girl!’ Thanks to our labours, this will mean increasingly,’Make me a minx, a moron, and a parasite.”

As the demons “gloat,” they speak of the girl and laugh at their success. In C.S. Lewis’ day, a minx meant a bimbo, a moron meant someone who won’t grow up, and a parasite basically meant someone who has to always feed off of someone else and can never spread their own wings.

Satan continues to succeed and bring girls down every single day. The only way for us to reject his plan is to get up and fight. Our battle is our walk; everyday we are sent fiery arrows by Satan’s bow. The only way to defeat each battle is to pick up our sword (God’s Word) and know where we stand. Just like in the song by Building 429, we won’t be shaken! I also refer to the song by Moriah Peters: Brave.

In the Magician’s Nephew, after Digory and Polly return home from the world of Charn, the witch had had a hold of Polly’s ear and hair and she had made a way into our world. The witch, determined to take over the world and rule as “empress,” Digory and Polly know something must be done. The witch has wrecked havoc everywhere and no one knows what to do. The two children are stunned at all the destruction they have caused and know that the world’s fate is in their hands. Instead of succumbing to the witch’s threats, they take action and take up their swords; well, they don’t have swords, they have magic rings.

Digory at last caught hold of her [the witch’s] ankle. She kicked back with her heel and hit him in the mouth. In his pain he lost hold. His lip was cut and his mouth was full of blood. From somewhere very close came the voice of Uncle Andrew in a sort of trembling scream. “Madam– my dear young lady– for heaven’s sake calm yourself.” Digory made a second grab at her heel, and was again shaken off. More men were knocked down by the iron bar. He made a third grab: caught the heel: held on like grim death, shouting to Polly,”Go!” then– Oh, thank goodness. The angry frightened faces had vanished. The angry frightened voices had silenced. All except Uncle Andrew’s.

This is our fight, this is our battle that we must rise courageously and fight like a girl (I would go on to talk about the Lady Eowyn, but I am quite drained)! We are Christ’s warriors. We are in the midst of this heated battle and we cannot let the enemy bring us down and keep us from fulfilling a beautiful plan we don’t even know He has thought out millions of times.

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

– Ephesians 6:17

All for now,

Emily 😀
